DISCOVER : Even Thieves

This Chicago band are bringing together various influences, experiences, and genres for a unique sound you can't miss out on.
Originally members of a few different bands, the six-piece was brought together through mutual friends, and finally found the full sound they were looking for. Together, Jeremy Atwood (synth, percussion), Joseph Paul Chouinard (bass), Adrian Day (vocals), Vinnie DePierro (guitar), Olivia "OJ" Garza (guitar, percussion), and Tyler Leninger (drums) create a unique mix of rock 'n' roll classics with new wave cleanliness, which shines on their debut EP, Lost Days, Stolen Nights, released in 2016.

Coming from inspirations such as The Killers, The Smiths, New Order, White Lies, Nine Inch Nails, We Were Promised Jetpacks, and Sigur Ros, this group has a giant sound. Smoothly balanced harmonies, huge vocals, and a larger-than-life two guitar style create an overall sound that frontman Adrian Day describes best in three words as "dark, dancey, anthemic".

Each of the four songs on the band's debut EP is different, but come together for an addictive creation. The first track, "Lost Days", offers completely raw vocals and ambient guitar parts, while "Nights in Fast Forward" brings out the band's darker, more eerie side, contrasting with "Breakdown", my personal favourite track, which highlights bright synths and an unforgettable chorus. Single "Follow You" is an electric, energetic song that demands to be heard, and is the perfect way to represent the band.

When it comes to where they make music, Even Thieves loves the collaborative atmosphere of their hometown. Chicago has "Tons of great venues, lots of bands of different genres that all know each other and play shows together," says Day. One of the bands Even Thieves recently had the opportunity to play with was alternative stars Atlas Genius, at their Lollapalooza after show. The band loved the supportive scene opening for Atlas Genius, as Day says that there were "Wonderful fans that were really involved and friendly and supportive." He said that the Australian natives had family working as crew, with their mom even selling merch. Day describes the group simply as "Great guys, amazing band," and points out that he had something in common with them - they're vegan, just like him!

As for the future, Even Thieves have a lot up their sleeves. To start, the six-piece have a show tomorrow night, playing with their friends Black Swift, I Lost Control, and Karma Wears White Ties. If you'll be in Chicago at 7:00 tomorrow night, you can find out more information and buy tickets to the show right here.

Day also says that the band is working on some new music to be released within the next year. "We're REALLY excited," he typed. They've been working with Stuart Richardson (No Devotion, Lost Prophets) doing some producing and mixing, and will be releasing "a couple EPs and a full length album in the next year," Day reveals. With a debut as strong as Even Thieves had with Lost Days, Stolen Nights, I can't wait to see what they put out in the future. This band is definitely one you need to have on your radar.

This artist submitted their own music, and Adrian Day was kind enough to answer a few questions via email. Thanks guys!
