"Now I'm Cool" by Coast Modern
LA's Luke Atlas and Coleman Trapp have been dropping singles under the alias Coast Modern since 2015, and at the end of July, they finally released their debut self-titled full-length album. It's fresh, funky, full of life, and an absolute must-listen for any music fan. "Now I'm Cool" hangs out on the back half of the album at track 13, but is not to be missed. The song is a breezy, carefree, self-mocking jam, with an unbelievably fun chorus.

"SHC" by Foster The People
We last heard from American band Foster The People in 2014, with the release of their second album, Supermodel. You might remember this band from their 2010 Top 40 success "Pumped Up Kicks", but they're now back with another electric work. Sacred Hearts Club is the third studio album from Mark Foster's indie pop outfit, and it's a slick, fast-paced, and undoubtably matured effort. "SHC" is the fourth track on the album, and it's completely larger than life.

"Desire" by Everything Everything
Manchester's Everything Everything released their fourth LP, A Fever Dream, in August. These experienced indie rockers have been going at it since 2010, writing innovative, witty lyrics that capture the craziness of the human world, masked by glittery guitar and shimmery falsettos. "Desire" was the third single released before the album came out on the 18th, and is a shining example of the group's genius. Albums like these are the reason why we love music.

"deadheads" by The Montreals
Despite what you might think, this indie rock quartet is not French-Canadian. Adelaide, Australia's The Montreals first burst onto the scene with their extended play, Indigo Club, in 2016. Their new single, "deadheads", is the first release since then, and it's just awesome. It's a lively, bratty, spontaneous effort, that feels like it should be playing over a movie scene where the main character is stumbling around and doing things you know they shouldn't be, but you can't help but love them.

"Lake Trasimene" by Real Terms
It's always satisfying to catch a band right at the very beginning. "Lake Trasimene" is the first single from Liverpool's Real Terms. Though still very much in their infancy as a band, the three-piece have a very promising sound that is not to be forgotten. With soaring vocals, a comforting chorus, and a unique, disjointed style, this is a song that will be stuck in your head for days. I can't wait to see how this young band develops their sound.

"Eclipse" by Inner Wave
Released on the 25th of August, Underwater Pipe Dreams is the new album from LA-based five-piece, Inner Wave. The group's unique style of genre-bending neo-psychedelic instrumentals with hip-hop influence is shown beautifully on the 18-track LP, with flowing guitar lines, blooming bass lines, and peaceful falsettos. "Eclipse" is the second track, and is relaxing, yet almost eerie, and a perfect example of the group's wonderful songwriting.

"Super Natural" by Turnover
This band has evolved throughout a few genres since their formation in 2009. The American three-piece debuted with Magnolia, an 11-track pop punk album, and have since traversed through indie rock and most recently, dream pop. Good Nature is Turnover's third album, released in August, and features spacious and flowing dreamy melodies. "Super Natural" was the first single released before the album, and is the perfect introduction to Turnover's new era, with soft vocals and floating guitar.

"I'm Just Snacking" by Gus Dapperton
Dreamy up-and-comer Gus Dapperton dropped his first EP, Yellow and Such, at the beginning of August. The 20-year-old from New York has been writing songs since he was a young teen, and the experience shows. Single "I'm Just Snacking" was released months before the EP, and has caught attention everywhere with its effortlessly floating synths, unique vocals, and must-watch music video, which acts more like a feature-length film, and was directed by Dapperton's friend, Matthew Dillon Cohen.

"Goodbye, Sweet Mango" by Valley Hush
A little while ago, this band was recommended to me by an awesome Twitter follower, and I've been waiting for new music ever since. The Detroit-based duo released their debut, self-titled album way back in October 2016, but made a triumphant return near the end of August with new single, "Goodbye, Sweet Mango". A newly confident, lush, and full sound can be found on this stellar single, affirming Valley Hush's position as one you should be watching out for.

"Sorry" by Nothing But Thieves
These British alt-rockers made the risky decision to write on the road, but it paid off arguably well. Nothing But Thieves knocked their sophomore release out of the park with Broken Machine. The highly anticipated release is a much more direct and coherent attempt than their 2015 debut, but the group's tenaciously huge sound is not lost. "Sorry" is one of the album's singles, and with stimulating rhythm parts, Conor Mason's chillingly powerful vocals, and a sound that swells throughout the whole song, it's an emotive yet irresistibly memorable work.

"Gotta Get Away" by Vista Kicks
I've been following these California natives for a long time, and I'm so happy that their debut album, Booty Shakers Ball, is finally available. And, it hasn't been given an inaccurate title, because you'll be hard-pressed to find a song on this 15-track release that doesn't make you want to get up and dance. Opener "Gotta Get Away" is a perfect example, with groovy guitar lines, strong vocals, and phenomenal rhythm, this is the feel-good album you need in your life.

"LAIDBACK" by RAT BOY
Jordan Cardy has been developing his experimental, DIY, rap-rock style since 2013, under the name of RAT BOY. After releasing music on Soundcloud, putting out single after single, and gaining a significant following, his debut record, SCUM, is here. Youthful, cheeky, and taking inspiration from classic British indie rock artists as well as 90s hip hop, RAT BOY's infectious hooks are going to be huge someday, and single "LAIDBACK" is the perfect example.

"traveler" by Hippo Campus
After the release of their debut record, Landmark, in February, Minnesota quartet Hippo Campus are already back with more phenomenal content. warm glow is the group's new EP, with three songs including a studio version of fan-favourite "baseball", an ethereal title track "warm glow", and new single "traveler". A further matured upgrade of the band's signature sunkissed guitar lines and fast-paced vocals, the song proves that the young musicians just keep developing and building off the Hippo Campus we know and love.

"Techno Show" by Peach Pit
If you haven't yet checked out these Vancouverites, you're missing out. The four-piece have been paving their way through the lo-fi indie scene for a while now, gathering comparisons to greats like fellow Canadian, Mac Demarco. After releasing a four-song EP, Sweet FA, in 2016, they've finally come out with their debut LP, Being So Normal, in September. "Techno Show" is one of my favourites, with its flowing guitar and intricate percussion melting together all throughout the track.

"Born To Be Like This" by McAllister
If you use Twitter at all, you've probably seen some hype about this band. McAllister have a powerful, atmospheric sound that you won't be able to get enough of. The Texas five-piece released their new single, "Born To Be Like This" in September, and it's the type of song gives you an overwhelming feeling of being alive. With beautiful keyboard work, stunning vocals, subtle synths, and an unforgettable bridge, the hype is well deserved.
