New York City singer-songwriter Del Water Gap announces upcoming debut album with new single, "Hurting Kind."

Since 2015, Holden Jaffe has fostered a lush, cinematic style of intimate indie rock under the name Del Water Gap. Now, his new single "Hurting Kind" offers an alluring introduction to the artist's highly anticipated self-titled debut album, which will be available on 8 October 2021.

Jaffe's songwriting has a signature ability to make specific scenarios resonate within the very core of your senses, and "Hurting Kind" is no exception. Released 23 June 2021, the song tracks the experience of falling in love with someone you think will hurt you, but being drawn to the relationship despite the fact.

Jaffe opens the single by hesitantly wondering, "Is our love the hurting kind?" over stripped layers of guitar and drum. But by the time he reaches the chorus, the sonic landscape widens and the strong beat propels Jaffe into the relationship, eventually deciding to "let it devour [him]." Illustrating the relationship with distinct details like a trip to Spain and a stained blouse, Jaffe lets the story play out in front of the listener, creating vivid vicarious emotions.

"Hurting Kind" will be featured on Del Water Gap's upcoming album along with previously released singles "Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat" and "Sorry I Am." As each single explores a different stage of being in or out of a relationship, the debut album is set to expand on Jaffe's capacity to capture the multifaceted nature of interpersonal connections. Because as "Hurting Kind" demonstrates, our lives will inevitably intertwine with one another, but only time will tell whether it's for better or for worse.
