PLAYLIST : seven indie bands we miss

Spring is all about everything new. So, roseplaylist is presenting a new playlist every weekend in April.
This week it's all about recognizing the bands that we miss. It's always upsetting to hear that a band is breaking up. Though you might never hear new music from them again, it really does make you appreciate the music that they did make. For this reason, the first April Playlist that roseplaylist is presenting features seven great bands who don't make music together anymore. But that doesn't mean you can't still love 'em.

Hooking harmonies, memorable melodies, and a variety of influences were leading this band to indie pop stardom. After five years of creating their own brand of optimistically colourful indie rock, the five members of Bear Attack had each experienced both personal and musical growth, so they decided to go their separate ways and end their project. Single "Broke" is one of my favourite songs from this band, as it is a true example of their relaxing yet captivating sound. The gruesome name of this band acts as contrast to this beautiful song about unrequited love.

From the years of 2003 to 2010, Brit-tinged indie was flowing out of Austin, Texas, by the name of Voxtrot. The band released their first five-song EP, Raised By Wolves, in 2005, full of danceable guitar lines and alluring melodies. After seven years releasing two more EPs and a self-titled LP, the band broke up after a final tour in 2010. Raised By Wolves' title track is a classic, offering tender vocals and controlled percussion, while sharp guitar punches in between, and the bass lines melt the whole song together.
Also listen to: "The Start of Something", "Firecracker", "Kid Gloves"

London indie rockers Bombay Bicycle Club announced their indefinite hiatus in over a year ago in January 2016, in order for the band's members to purse solo projects. The band has experimented with various styles, as vocalist Jack Steadman has used experience from travelling. The influence from Steadman's trips to the Netherlands, Turkey, and India is visible on the band's most recent 2014 album, So Long, See You Tomorrow. "Luna" was the second single released off this album, and its leaping crescendos, steady bass, and haunting harmonies are simply uplifting.

This Cheshire band's rising indie pop/rock career came to a tragic halt when all four members along with their manager shockingly passed away in a car accident in Sweden in February last year. Their music, however, has not gone forgotten. Viola Beach was headed towards being one of the most influential British indie artists. Their song, "Boys That Sing", was the last single the band released. The song is filled with jaunty guitar lines, boyish lyrics, and an infectiously fun atmosphere. It really is a shame that such young people with such potential and talent were taken so soon. They are dearly missed by indie fans all over the world.

Made in Japan
Made in Japan have been on an indefinite hiatus since 2014, but their feel-good brand of guitar-fronted indie can still brighten even the lowest of spirits. The Australian band formed in 2009, and released their debut album Sights and Sounds in 2012. Upbeat guitars and smooth vocals dance through the album, with single "Pairs" as a personal standout track. The song immediately holds attention as the repeated guitar and bass lines intertwine with a sense of urgent calm.
Also listen to: "Time Flies", "What It Is", "Hibiscus"

After three years of making music together, Dallas-based three-piece NeonNoah ended at their farewell show just a few weeks ago on March 31. The band had such potential and I was really sad to see them go. Their road-trip-ready synth pop is really impossible to not love. The band released two EPs over their time together, with Bella Vita as the most recent. Single "Dreaming With the Lights On" is absolute indie pop perfection, with its strong percussion, bright synths, and explosive chorus.
Also listen to: "Atlas", "Heart", "Shoreline"

Magic Man
Okay, you got me. Magic Man aren't really broken up. However, since having to replace the three band members that left the band in 2015, the band has flown a bit under the radar. Thankfully, childhood friends and band-founders Alex Caplow and Sam Vanderhoop Lee have posted on social media about new things on their way. I'm glad to see that they are taking their time and putting a lot of effort into their new work, and I can't wait to see what is in store for this band. The last song on their album, Before the Waves, "It All Starts Here" is one of my favourite songs in the world, and I just had end this playlist with it.
Also listen to: "Chicagoland", "Tonight", "Honey"
