NEW // "Disappear Here" [song] by Bad Suns

Bad Suns is a band you can never get tired of. Their debut album, Language & Perspective, will stay one of my all time favourites for a very long time. Having listened to this album probably a million times, I have been on the edge of my seat as the band has been posting studio pictures and dropping hints that a second LP was on its way. Yesterday Disappear Here was finally announced, which will be arriving on September 16th, as they also released the simply addictive title track.
"Disappear Here" grabs attention quickly as it explodes into the Bad Suns we all know and love. Bass guitar and drum heavy, with light guitar riffs filling in the blanks, the band's instrumental style is immediately recognizable. In comes Christo Bowman's strong vocals, creating the final piece of the puzzle. Bad Suns is one of those bands that just has a sound, one that as soon as you hear it, you know it's them. Bowman fosters this sound, with not only an incredible tenor range, but a voice that is so wonderfully unique. The final chorus of the song builds up to the full potential, featuring a few melody changes, while guitarist Ray Libby fires riffs that soar to new heights. Bowman's falsetto is as dreamy as ever, while the rhythm section keeps everything tied together as always.

Lyrics are usually my favourite thing about music, and "Disappear Here" is a perfect example. The title itself seems contradictory, and with lines like "I'm right, I'm wrong / I'm everything but sure / My blazing head, my freezing heart", and the bridge, "Go go / No stay, no go go", this song is filled with oxymoronic imagery. Painting the picture of a protagonist who is in a complicated relationship, considering the common topic, this song is very lyrically fresh. Bad Suns have created some of my favourite lyrics to date, and I'm very happy to see them continuing strong.
There is a certain type of satisfaction that is reached when a band you already know and love meets your expectations for new music. Bad Suns have exceeded mine, with a song that feels so familiar, yet entirely different. If "Disappear Here" is the title track and the opening track on the album, this is definitely a good sign towards how the rest of the album will fall into place.
